MTV pisses me off, and radio in general because they’re bringing more and more less than mediocre acts in, and for some strange reason they’re actually selling! Christin was telling me how she used to be younger than everyone on MTV and now she’s older, which I’m inclined to agree. You have acts like Jo Jo who’s like 14? 15? Then you have Bow Wow who’s like around that age too, and when you want like classic rock acts like Bon Jovi or Aerosmith people will look at you funny and go “But they’re so olddddddd!!”
Fuck this, who made it a crime to listen to old songs anyway. I’d rather listen to something 100 years old than to that R&B bullshit you get on TV. With people like Rhiana (however you spell it) who keeps on repeating “Hey Mr DJ” and Nina Sky, Pussycat Dolls, Sean Paul, and the latest - Daddy Yankee who spouts a lot of bullshit in spanish (?) while the video just features lots of semi-hot girls shaking their asses on TV.
I don’t get why people love this shit. Admittedly some beats are catchy, like they have some Afro-cuban-latin beats whatnot and it’s quite good, but then the people start singing and it’s like “Oh my God, kill me now” because frankly I’d rather listen to a hundred people taking a fart cause that would be seriously more entertaining than that crap you get on radio and MTV these days. What infuriates me even more is that while there are tons and tons of talented musicians who are out there barely surviving, you have douches like Britney Spears who can’t sing to save her life earning by the millions.
Seriously people, you folks need some real music, which is why I have posted a list of artists you should check out because they’re so damn good they could kick you in the nuts and you’d still ask for more with a fucking smile on your face:
Buddy Rich - An amazing drum legend for jazz big bands. Those who say they love jazz..well, this is one big band you need to check out.
Count Basie Big Band - Another great big band, although this time the focus is more towards the whole band rather than the drummer, which is kind of refreshing.
Charlie Parker - Relatively light jazz compared to big band stuff. Amazing on the sax.
Dave Weckl - Another amazing drummer, very modern, great dynamics. I’m not sure if it can be enjoyed by everyone, but you should check him out anyway.
Dennis Chambers - Same as Dave Weckl, very funky. Check him out.
Duke Ellington - For those who like it slow and smooth.
Frank Sinatra - You just can’t go wrong here. If you don’t like the music you can at least appreciate his singing.
Greg Howe - Amazing guitarist, and I mean amazing. I would personally find him better than Steve Vai and all that G3 bullshit. Guitarists you gotta check him out.
Jamiroquai - Not sure about their new stuff, but their old albums and songs are pretty good, namely Cosmic Girl, Emergency on Planet Earth and etc.
Jason Mraz - Like John Mayer, except more funky and his songs are more varied in terms of styles.
John Mayer - Absolutely kick ass! You have to give the man respect. Not just a pretty-face (?) but also an extremely talented guitarist. At the same time you should give his new band The John Mayer Trio a spin cause you get to see him show his true self musically.
Michael Buble - His voice is silky smooth, and even though he usually does covers, it’s still damn good. ‘nuf said.
Miles Davis - If you like jazz, then you must listen to this. It’s one of those must-listens for jazz lovers.
Ryanhood - Two accoustic guitarists. One a graduate from Berklee and received the Aerosmith award. Although not very technical, they make good listening with catchy tunes and riffs.
Stan Getz - Another great sax player. Must check out.
Stevie Wonder - This man is the man of the man. He composes everything. Drums, keyboards, strings, piano, etc. Dude is simply amazing.
Tower of Power - Old school funk. Good shit.
Weather Report - Though I’m not a bass player, you have to admit that the bass playing is simply out of this world.
